City Lights & Company is a nonprofit arts organization that serves the community through art and produces the Bridgeport Art Trail. Programs and exhibits are designed to engage the community, celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the community, provide arts accessibility for youth and adults, enrich the learning experience, employ the arts to attract people from diverse backgrounds to share a cultural exchange, and to promote Bridgeport growing creative community.
Last year City Lights school programs reached over 5000 youth in Greater Bridgeport. Programs provided critical supplemental income in the amount of $80,000 of professional compensation to local artists and creatives. Funding and contributions are critical to keep the momentum going.
“The National Endowment for the Arts showed that, by nearly every indicator studied, a student from a low-socioeconomic (SES- socioeconomic status) background with a high-arts educational experience significantly outperformed peers from a low-arts, low-SES background, closing (and in some cases eliminating) the gap that often appears between low-SES students and their more advantaged peers.”
