About Become a CASA!

Every day abused and neglected children in Clackamas County are taken from their homes and placed into foster care because their parents do not take safe or proper care of them. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are a special kind of volunteer. When a child is removed to protective custody, their volunteer advocate provides a voice in court and dedicated support in finding a safe and permanent home where the child will thrive.

CASAs are ordinary people...men and women, executives, retirees, and busy professionals who give their time and their hearts to make an extraordinary difference for some of our communities' most vulnerable children. You do not have to be a lawyer or a social worker to be a volunteer. We welcome people from all walks of life. We are simply looking for people who care about children and have common sense.

As a CASA volunteer you will get to know the child for whom you are advocating. You will investigate and gather information, advocate for the child, make recommendations to the court, and monitor the progress of the case. The information that you gather, along with your recommendations, helps the court to make informed decisions.

Application Process

Child Advocates, Inc. will provide all of the training you need to be a powerful voice for the child's best interest. We ask that each volunteer commit to seeing the child face to face at least monthly. You will also periodically attend court hearings and other case meetings. Additional time will be required to gather information and advocate for the best interest of the child. A CASA volunteer typically dedicates 10-20 hours per month to their case.

The first step is for you to attend a CASA 101 orientation. The second step is detailed training. You can find the schedule of upcoming orientation and training sessions here.
