About The Hoops and Swish Basketball Fun-Raiser, hosted by The Greater Newburgh Rotary

It's March Madness, Everyone Wins! Give It Your Best Shot!

The Greater Newburgh Rotary Club with its sponsored youth club, The NFA High Interact Club, are busy putting together the 3rd annual community basketball event and fun-raiser at the Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) gym.

Saturday, March 30, from 9 am to 12 noon.

Event Details:
The event invites the greater Newburgh, NY community to assemble basketball teams. Each team raises money for their favorite charity. Your team keeps 80% of the monies raised and the Newburgh Rotary retains 20% of the funds.

The day of the event each team will shoot baskets during their time slot for their charity.

All participants will receive a T-shirt. In addition to a prize for the shooter who brings in the most dollars for their charity, there will be awards for the most baskets made to a male and to a female in each of the following age divisions:

Ages 5 and under, 6-7, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17, 18-35, 36-54, 55-64, 65 and over

Rotary’s share of the proceeds will be contributed back to community’s non-profits/charities, consistent with the mission of the local and International Club.

BACKGROUND. This Hoops & Swish multi-faceted basketball event is modeled after a successful event run annually by the Carmel, N.Y. Rotary Club. The Newburgh President, Deborah Sager, said “I am pleased that the proceeds will benefit Greater Newburgh children in need again this year.” Also, I’m excited about “Hoops & Swish” because there are few events that contribute so much to the community while participants have so much good fun! This is a great event to end the Greater Newburgh Rotary Club’s Centennial Year.”

THE COMMITTEE. The Rotary Committee are Chair Doug Sturomski, Andrew Ciccone, Dan and Karen Olson, Jeannine Miller, Cathy McCarty, the Interact Advisor, Lou Chappo, Bob McCurdy, Brenda Harburger, Tom Becker, and Knut Johnsen.

ACTION. Sign up to participate in any number of ways. Nonprofits looking to raise funds should sign up and assemble a team of players. Businesses looking to give back and gain valuable exposure should sign up as Sponsors and assemble a team. Shooters should select a nonprofit team and gather supporters. Supporters/Backers should find nonprofits or players to “back” with a financial commitment.
