About CASA Volunteer

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court.
A CASA volunteer provides a judge with carefully researched background of the child to help the court make a sound decision about the child’s future. The CASA volunteer must determine if it is in a child’s best interest to stay with his or her parents or guardians, be placed in foster care, be placed with other relatives, or be freed for permanent adoption.
CASA volunteers participate in a 30-hour training and required continuing training. There are currently CASA programs in Adams County, Clay County, Hancock County, Harrison County, Hinds County, Jackson County and Warren County. If you are interested in volunteering with one of these local programs, please contact director@casams.org.

Volunteering as a CASA in Mississippi requires a valid driver's license, a successful background check and completion of 30 hours of initial training.
