About Camp Catch-A-Rainbow - Pediatric Cancer Camp offered by YMCA Storer Camps

Fresh air, new friends, and lots of camping fun is in store for children from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana who take part in the Camp Catch-A-Rainbow programs!

YMCA Storer Camps in Jackson, MI offers Camp Catch-A-Rainbow (CCAR), free of charge, to enrich the lives of children between four and fifteen years old who are being treated for cancer or who are in remission from cancer.

Camp Catch-A-Rainbow provides the opportunity for children to simply have a good time and enjoy the experience of exercise, recreation, and companionship through activities paced to meet the needs of kids with cancer. Campers enjoy swimming, archery, horseback riding, high adventure ropes courses, arts and crafts, canoeing, and much more.

Young Camper's Day, is a one-day camp program paced for younger children ages 4-6 who may not be ready for an overnight camp-out, but still want to be part of the fun.

Staffed by volunteers, Camp Catch-A-Rainbow and Young Camper’s Day offers campers 24 hour access to health care professionals to meet their cancer care needs.

Volunteer Health Care Professionals (licensed in MI) are currently needed to act as cabin counselors to help meet the medical care needs of the participants. Volunteer positions are also available for general cabin counselors (male volunteers are especially needed). Camp Catch-A-Rainbow and Young Camper's Day Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older and able to attend a mandatory volunteer orientation on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Volunteers for the full-week camp must be able to stay overnight for the whole week.

You will help provide happy childhood memories to children who have been through some difficult times! The children will teach you valuable life lessons as well! Volunteers become like family members after the week of camp, and you'll want to return again!

Application Process

Volunteers must fill out a Camp Catch-A-Rainbow volunteer application. Volunteers may apply online at: https://events.ymcatoledo.org/ccarforms/ or a hard copy application can be requested. Background checks will be run on each volunteer and reference checks will be performed. Volunteers will need to submit a copy of negative TB test results.
