Save Our Ash Trees

With your support, you can help us save 110 Ash trees this year!

A fundraising campaign for Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy

Throughout the Buffalo Olmsted Parks System, Ash trees make up approximately 12% of all our trees. Besides being well-known for its Fall colors, the Ash tree is the ONLY tree that is sought after by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive wood-boring pest. This year, we must 'treet' and save 110 Ash trees.

1. Trees are infected by Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive wood-boring pest
2. Emerald Ash Borer adults lay their eggs in the Ash tree's bark
3. Upon hatching, the larvae pierce the bark and feed off the tree's nutrients
4. Ultimately, the Ash tree lacks the necessary nutrients and dies

Every donation will go directly to 'treeting' our Ash trees. Our dedicated forestry team will carefully 'treet' each Ash tree with a special medication, or 'juice,' which will keep it safe from the Emerald Ash Borer for up to 2 years.

Our goal for this 24 hour give-a-thon campaign is $1,500. For every $70 that we raise, the life span of one (1) Ash tree will be secured for approximately two (2) years. $1,500 will save 21 trees, about 20% of our total goal for 2016.

In order to be completely effective, we must have ongoing support that requires continuous funding.

Depending upon the pest pressure, each 'treetment' will last for roughly two (2) years, you can opt for a recurring monthly/annual donation when you donate here or contact Maureen Hanagan, Director of Marketing & Communications at maureen@bfloparks.org

April is the Month of the Tree. Stay tuned for future events such as Earth Day at Cazenovia Park, the 10th Annual Buffalo Enviro-Fair at the Galleria Mall, and Arbor Day 2016. Click here for more information.
