The village of Britton was established in August 13, 1881 and has total area of 0.9 square miles. The main industries are agriculture and small business with 699 people, 261 households, and 196 families residing in the village.
Deerfield also has a total area of 0.9 square miles with 1,005 people, 358 households, and 272 families residing in Deerfield.
In 2010-2011 school year, both the Britton-Macon and Deerfield school boards voted to consolidate the districts. All middle school students (6-8) from both districts will attend classes in Deerfield, while high school students (9-12) will attend classes in Britton. Both school buildings will maintain their current elementary classes. Britton Deerfield High School has 259 students enrolled in 9th through 12th grade in the 2014-2015 school year, and is a comprehensive four-year public high school. Britton Deerfield is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools.
