About Character and Leadership Development

We empower young people to support and influence their community, sustain meaningful relationships, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and other’s cultural identities.

One major activity in this area is our “Youth of the Year” program. Annually, Club members undergo an application and interview process with one individual, who embodies the aforementioned characteristics, being selected as our “Youth of the Year.” The youngster then moves on to compete on the state, regional and national levels, vying for scholarship money and the opportunity to become the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s “Youth of the Year.” Another program is a brand new Leadership Program for boys and girls ages 8-17 years old. Leadership Program is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program. The goal of the program is to help boys and girls develop and adopt a healthy attitude and lifestyle, as well as acquire and maintain a positive self-concept, sound decision-making skills and mentor relationships.
