Some General Opportunities:
-Help lead an outdoor expedition (hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, etc.)
-Provide a meal for one of our expeditions.
-Provide transportation for a program event.
I-tem Donation: hiking boots, fishing poles, backpacks, camping gear, life jackets, etc.
Specific Programs Needs:
-Explorers: Explorers meets regularly throughout the school year (see calendar for exact dates). Volunteers are needed to assist Educators and help lead 3rd, 5th, or 7th graders through various outdoor science education activities. Time commitment is from about 9:30 am to 1 pm on field trip days.
-Outdoor Adventure Clubs: OAC's meet Tuesday thru Friday afternoon at various schools in the East End. We need volunteers who can commit weekly to the same club for the majority of the semester. Volunteers would be assisting the program staff in leading and teaching an outdoor activity or wilderness skill.
-Expeditions: Saturday Expeditions occur once or twice a month and serve as a great introduction to Blue Sky! An Expedition might be a day hike, fishing on the James River, kayak trip, mountain biking, or other outdoor adventure. Time commitment is from about 9 am to 2 pm and no regular commitment is needed.
-Church Hill Games: This annual 1-day event every May needs 120+ volunteers for everything from teaching sports, assisting children ages 5-13 years old, taking pictures, serving lunch, etc. This is a great event serving hundreds of kids in the East End.
No one has signed up yet, but you could be the first!
