About Senior Outreach Program

The Blount County Sheriff's Office is designed to serve, protect and enforce, but one special program also allows volunteers to lend a helping hand, especially in this summer's hot weather.

"Everybody thinks that these people enjoy us so much and they need us, well, they do, but it's a true blessing for (my wife) and I to be able to come out and give back to the community, and it's just a way for us to show our appreciation," said Jene Thompson, one of more than 30 volunteers in the Blount County Sheriff's Office Senior's Outreach program.

The volunteers visit more than 120 people throughout the community to offer a helping hand and a listening ear.
