About Become a Big

Are you interested in becoming a Big?
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children with strong and enduring, professional supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. In short, we match children with volunteer mentors, and we provide case management support for those matches.
In the community-based Program, mentors (Bigs) provide one-on-one attention with children (Littles) on the community. Bigs meet with their Littles 2-4 times per month for a couple of hours. We believe that every child can benefit from the additional caring and insight a mentor can offer. National research confirms that children matched in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs are more likely to excel and make better life choices.
At a minimum, volunteer mentors must be 18 or older, have access to transportation, and be willing to commit twelve months to a match.
*It is the policy and commitment of Big Brothers Big Sisters that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, age, color, sex, national origin, physical of mental disability, religion, or sexual orientation.
Making the best possible match between a Little and a Big is critical to the program success. However, before we begin the match process, we thoroughly screen all potential Bigs and Littles. Our standards of excellence require each volunteer to complete an in-depth interview and criminal background and reference checks.
