About Big Family

What: Provide children facing adversity with a strong, enduring one-to-one relationship

When: 4-8 hours a month- days, evenings, or weekends

Where: Library, park, museum, sporting event, playing a game…..all interactions are beneficial

Why Get Involved?

Volunteers can provide children facing adversity with strong, enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Children participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs typically have higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships; avoid risky behaviors, and greater educational success which has a positive impact on them, their family, and our community.

The Big Family volunteer opportunity matches interested families with a Little between the ages of 6 and 18 to share fun and rewarding experiences throughout the community as they build their relationship.

By meeting four to eight hours a month on a consistent but flexible basis, a Big Family is able to expose the Little to new people, places and ideas to broaden their exposure and thinking about the world around them and the myriad opportunities available. Whether going for a walk, doing homework at the library, visiting a museum, watching a sporting event, playing a game, or eating ice cream, all interactions benefit the child as the relationship grows.

Just as your options are unlimited, so is your Little’s potential.

This opportunity is flexible to your own schedule and that of the family of your Little Brother. Big Families can typically see their Little during the day, evening, or weekends at an agreed upon location.

Orientation and Training: All volunteers will receive orientation at the time of program enrollment, and will receive individual and group training on an ongoing basis.

Volunteers should be willing and able to commit to a one year match with their Little.
