About Join Lend A Hand: Flexible, Short-Term Volunteering

The Lend-A-Hand Task Force is a growing volunteer program from Befrienders that connects caring community members with older adults in Gallatin County who need a little extra help. This initiative is all about helping seniors stay independent, safe, and connected to their community—one small task at a time.

As a Lend-A-Hand volunteer, you’ll be on our Point app and receive text notifications when a senior needs assistance, and you can sign up for tasks that fit your schedule and interests. Every opportunity is a chance to make a meaningful difference—whether it’s solving a small problem, providing peace of mind, or simply showing someone they’re not alone.

Here are some of the ways volunteers are already making an impact:

Household Help: Moving furniture, hanging pictures, changing light bulbs, or tackling light yard work.

Seasonal Support: Raking leaves, shoveling snow, trimming hedges, or preparing gardens.

Tech Assistance: Helping seniors with their phones, tablets, computers, and other devices—whether it's setting up Zoom, troubleshooting a printer, or teaching them how to text their grandkids.

Event Companionship: Accompanying seniors to local events like the farmers market, concerts, or community celebrations.

Emergency Response: Being part of a volunteer check-in team after natural disasters or severe weather events.

Each volunteer is interviewed and background-checked before joining the task force. When a senior request comes in, a text is sent out to the volunteer network—no pressure, just opportunities to say “yes” when you can.

Whether you love fixing things, being outdoors, sharing your tech skills, or just lending a hand, this program offers a flexible and rewarding way to support your neighbors. It’s simple. It’s meaningful. And it matters.

Application Process

Apply online through our website www.BefriendersBozeman.org.

Once we receive your application, volunteers will receive an email with all of the information they will need for Lend-A-Hand. Onboarding is easy!

Step 2: Download the POINT app

Step 3: Join “Befrienders” on POINT

Step 4: Background Checks
We’ll run a background check and notify you over text once you're approved. A $20 donation is appreciated to help offset this cost. Donate via PayPal or Venmo @Befrienders (black logo with flowers).

Step 5: Start Helping
Browse available tasks in the app, choose one that fits your schedule, and contact the senior to arrange a time. Afterward, be sure to report back to us by text, phone, or email within 1–2 days.

Note: Tasks on the POINT app may list broad timeframes — this allows you to coordinate directly with the senior. We also encourage light conversation and connection during tasks to help combat isolation.
