About Lend-A-Hand to a Senior
The Befrienders Lend-a-Hand Task Force is a new program that connects volunteers to seniors in the community with specific tasks or needs they need assistance with. The program is designed to help seniors stay independent and connected to their community.
Here are some of the ways that volunteers can help seniors:
- Household needs: Volunteers can help seniors with tasks such as moving furniture, hanging pictures, changing light bulbs, and yard work.
- Seasonal needs: Volunteers can help seniors with tasks such as shoveling snow, raking leaves, and trimming hedges.
- Event-specific needs: Volunteers can help seniors with tasks such as attending farmers markets, outdoor events, and other community events.
- Technology needs: Volunteers can help seniors with tasks such as using computers, smartphones, and other electronic devices.
- Natural disasters: Volunteers can be part of a network of volunteers to check-in on seniors in the community after a natural disaster.
Volunteers are interviewed and a background check is conducted before they are accepted into the program. Each senior request is texted to the Lend-A-Hand Task Force with the hope that a volunteer can take on the task.
