About Volunteer Coordinator

Do you like meeting new people and finding ways to help them to engage with each other and the community? The Calhoun County World AIDS Day Committee is a group dedicated to planning and executing the annual World AIDS Day Observance in Calhoun County every December.

According to the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) the reported prevalence of HIV infection has increased statewide and in Calhoun County every year since the early 1980s. Approximately 37% of the people with HIV and AIDS in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area have unmet healthcare needs. More than one hundred and fifty people in the county have died as a result of HIV/AIDS since 1983. Access to testing, treatment, and the effects of stigma are of great concern. The loss of health and life are preventable.

We are looking for someone to find volunteers and coordinate their work. The ability to get along with a variety of people and solve problems is important. Respect for people dealing with HIV and AIDS is vital.

Duties include: attending monthly meetings and the Observance, contacting current and potential volunteers, delegating tasks, and dealing with our assorted personalities. We ask for a year-long commitment of 3-5 hours each month, with more in November and December. Our meetings typically happen on the second Saturday of each month at 1pm and last for about one hour.
