About Marketing and Outreach Coordinator

Do you get into looking for new ways to reach people and promote the growth of your community? The Calhoun County World AIDS Day Committee is a group of volunteers dedicated to planning and executing the annual World AIDS Day Observance in Calhoun County every December. We need someone who wants to engage with the people and agencies that may participate in the event. Enthusiasm and the ability to talk up the event are important.

According to the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) the reported prevalence of HIV infection has increased statewide and in Calhoun County every year since the early 1980s. Approximately 37% of the people with HIV and AIDS in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area have unmet healthcare needs. More than one hundred and fifty people in the county have died as a result of HIV/AIDS since 1983. Access to testing, treatment, and the effects of stigma are of great concern. The loss of health and life are preventable.

Duties include: attending monthly meetings and the Observance, contacting current and potential partners, advertising in various media sources, coordinating sponsors and tablers, and dealing with our assorted personalities. Respect for people dealing with HIV and AIDS is vital. We ask for a year-long commitment of 3-5 hours each month, with more in November and December. Our meetings typically happen on the second Saturday of each month at 1pm and last for about one hour.
