About Refugee After-School Tutoring and Conversation Partners

This opportunity allows you to meet, engage and interact with and enable children to enjoy learning! These children are ENL (English New Learner) students who come from all around the world (Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, Nepal, Burma, Bhutan, Vietnam). You will help them individually or in groups with homework assignments. This can entails many steps depending on their English proficiency (reading the question together, understanding the question, explaining meanings of words, etc).

This program serves four main goals: 1) Improve academic performance in general with significant improvements demonstrated in the subjects of science, math, written and oral language 2) improve the quality of class work 3) Increase number of homework and in-class assignments turned in 4) Increase student's perception of scholastic competency.
