About Teaching

Our Teaching programme allows our volunteers to plan and implement teaching activities in our local schools (pre-school, primary and secondary) and ICT Centre. Volunteers get to work closely with the school administration, teachers, and parents to develop lesson plans suitable for local students. Volunteers may also conduct after school enrichment sessions and environmental programmes for the community. With open minds and loving hearts, our volunteers will be well rewarded with receptiveness and affection from our children.

We need volunteers to help with:

Computer Instructor

December 29, 2012 7:00pm
This task is filled or completed
At the Juvenile (NGO) office we have an ICT centre (computer training centre) that local youth and children come by to use. We have two community pre-schools and one government school on our Island. We hope to conduct computer training classes for kids, students, youth and government servants. Therefore, if you have expertise in the field of computer teaching and would like to contribute your skills, you could join and develop a good teaching curriculum for different age groups and help execute it in collaboration and support from our team at Atoll Volunteers.
On arrival we do not be expect you to start work immediately, we understand the travel from your home country to Naifaru can be exhausting. You would first be taken to the volunteer house by an Atoll Volunteer representative where you could meet fellow volunteers and interact, unpack your baggage and relax for a while. You would then be briefed on the teaching programme planned for the volunteers and be shown around the island and where the schools are located and probably get the chance to meet the principal and a few teachers you may get to work with in the next few days. The appointments with the school for meetings are to be kept, so you are requested to be on time once the appointments are made.
Your volunteer efforts will definitely benefit the society, and we assure you the experience would be rewarding. The students in island are very friendly, and are well versed in English though may be shy to interact in the beginning but that would ease off gradually. In the evening hours or after school, the volunteers can conduct sessions on educative games or presentations related to the project and get the school kids involved. This is conducted with the permission of the school authorities and can be held only in the school premises.
During the weekly holidays, (Fridays and Saturdays) volunteers would be free and are encouraged to take part in our other projects such as marine conservation, eco waste management and swimming lessons. We always welcome innovative ideas and plans from the volunteers that can benefit the island.
As with all our programmes we would confirm your participation as the computer instructor after carefully reviewing your CV. If you would like to request for a change in your placement to another programme you can request 20 days in advance with a letter supporting your interest in that programme.
We would like everyone joining the Teaching project to come with an open mind and a loving heart. You can expect a friendly environment and great team support from Atoll Volunteers.
Volunteers who have committed three months of their time will be in the running to win the Best International Volunteer Award. This will be awarded yearly by Atoll Volunteers on International Volunteer Day (December 5).

We seek individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth and children to teach in Maldives. We have two community pre-schools and one government school on our Island. This internship programme allows our volunteers to work in co-operation with the school authorities to develop suitable teaching materials for their classes. Other than normal lessons, volunteers can also assist in coordination of extracurricular projects such as talks, presentations and activities. One such example would be working with the Environment Club to initiate environmental programmes. We also have an ICT centre (computer training centre), and we hope to conduct computer training classes for kids, students, youth and government servants. Therefore, if you have expertise in the field of computer teaching and would like to contribute your skills, you could join and develop a good teaching curriculum for different age groups and help execute it in collaboration and support from our team at Atoll Volunteers. This internship programme is perfect for education majors and individuals who are keen to pursue a career in the field of teaching. We encourage you to commit for one whole semester (approximately 5 months) in order to hone your teaching skills and get a better sense of working in a school environment. We will work with you to ensure that your stay here is meaningful and enjoyable. Your volunteer efforts will definitely benefit the society, and we assure you the experience would be rewarding.
