About Medical Placement

We seek volunteers who have background in the field of medicine and nursing to work in our local hospital. The hospital serves the daily needs of the 5000 residents on the island. Volunteers will find a well-equipped hospital that is able to accommodate the needs of most patients. Medical and nursing students in their second and third year of study are also welcome, and you will gain significant practical skills from your work here. Volunteers will get a chance to closely work with the local doctors, community leaders and patients to develop comprehensive healthcare programmes and awareness campaigns. In addition, you will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare system in Maldives, which provides free healthcare too all citizens.

Apart from being involved with medical activities, volunteers can be a part of other programmes such as marine conservation and eco waste management in their spare time. Your assistance would be valuable to the other volunteers. During weekends, you can look forward to picnics on un-inhabited Islands, snorkelling and fishing trips.
As with all our programmes we would confirm your participation in the medical programme after carefully reviewing your CV. If you would like to request for a change in your placement to another programme you can request 20 days in advance with a letter supporting your interest in that programme.
Volunteers can expect a friendly environment and great team support from Atoll Volunteers for all their activities.
Volunteers who have committed three months of their time will be in the running to win the Best International Volunteer Award. This will be awarded yearly by Atoll Volunteers on International Volunteer Day (December 5).
