About Pro Bono Program

There’s a severe need in eastern and south-central Kentucky for pro-bono and low-bono legal help. Thousands of people deserve a lawyer by their side when facing the most challenging moments of their life. When they walk out the doors of the courthouse, their entire life is changed. With your help, it will be transformed for the better.

• Cases are most frequently available in divorce, custody, and bankruptcy. However, there are opportunities for cases that handle education issues, loan modification, and other consumer issues.

• Support is available from the Pro Bono Director, and you can be matched with a mentor for assistance if you are taking on a new type of case.

• You are covered under our malpractice insurance.

• There are remote opportunities! You can serve from any county and help pro se litigants get ready to represent themselves in court. These popular pro se clinics happen monthly in public spaces around eastern Kentucky and on Zoom.

• Cases can be taken pro bono or "low bono."


AppalReD serves the following counties in Kentucky: Bell, Clay, Harlan, Knox, Laurel, Whitley, Breathitt, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, Wolfe , Pike, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Magoffin, Martin, Clark, Estill, Garrard, Jackson, Madison, Powell. Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Monroe, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, and Wayne. We are in urgent need of volunteers in Floyd, Johnson, Monroe, Cumberland and Adair Counties.
