Whether it's being able to help their children with homework or acheiving their GED and attending college, low income adults and out-of-school youth will be able to receive free books, tutoring and assessments to make their personal literacy goals become a reality. No other literacy program in the county provides this combination of free services. We served 205 students last year and would like to continue expanding our free program.

  • In Anne Arundel County approximately 14% of residents (i.e., at least 70,000 persons) lack the literacy skills to prepare for a high school diploma through the GED or other program.
  • Adults with improved literacy are more likely to avoid crime, remain healthier, become employees, and raise children who are better prepared for school.

Each student’s story is unique and inspiring. Angelica is a Head Start mom who is working to achieve her GED so that she can better provide for her young children. Harvey and Maria were both able to keep their jobs by improving their reading and then passing a required written test. Jorge was able to pass his citizenship test.
