Support Red Cross mission
Be knowledgable of Red Cross services and progams
Ensure that all baseline requirements are met pertaining to pet's health, liability insurance, training, and certifications.
Check with appropriate hospital staff to identify patients who could benefit from pet visitation
Maintain constant control of pet
Maintain a log of visits
Meet HIPAA confidentiality requirments
Maintain professionalism as stated in Red Cross policy
Ensure that volunteer hours are tracked per Red Cross policy

Application Process

To become a volunteer with the American Red Cross you would need to complete an application. This application is found at http://www.redcross.org/mississippi/volunteer. This takes you directly to the Volunteer Application page found on the Red Cross website. Completion of the application consists of registering for orientation, reading and agreeing to the code of conducts and policies of the Red Cross, and completion a background check.
