About Southeast MS - Home Fire Preparedness Safety Instructor-Laurel

As part of home visit team, visit homes at-risk for home fires and help review a fire safety checklist with the resident, assist the resident in completing a home fire escape plan and review priority hazard risk and preparedness steps/protective actions.
Follow all guidelines, training, safety and documentation requirements for this task.
Provide reporting and evaluation feedback for continuous improvement purposes.
Time Commitment:
-10 hours per weekend, once a quarter on average
Qualifications:
Ideally, has provided preparedness education, canvassed neighborhoods, and interacted with clients. Ability to relate well and effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to complete required training for HFPC, including saftety education. Demonstated ability to read, understand and review fire safety checklist and hazard risk preparedness steps with a client, and help resident complete home fire escape plan.

Requirements:
Orientation to American Red Cross (online)
Disaster Services: An Overview (optional)
HFPC Guidance and Training: Safety for Home Visits, Fire Safety and Disaster Education, and other required training.
Purpose:
The American Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) is launching the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign (HFPC) in October 2014. Its goal is to reduce the rate of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 percent over 5 years. Its strategy includes participating in a community coalition that targets neighborhoods at-risk for home fires; installs and tests smoke alarms; and provides fire safety and disaster preparedness education/planning. This position exists primarily to review a fire safety checklist with the resident, assist the resident in completing a home fire escape plan, and review priority hazard risk and preparedness steps/protective actions. It is part of a smoke alarm home visit team.
