About Southeast MS - Disaster Responder: Trainee-Laurel

Become a disaster responder trainee! Volunteer to respond to disasters in the local community as a Disaster Action Team (DAT) Trainee within the MS Region or on larger scale disaster relief operations. May also support regional response task groups such as Logistics, Sheltering, Disaster Assessment, Staff Services and Information Technology.

Time Commitment:
Varies

3-10 hours per month during times of daily operations.

Up to 12 hour daily shifts, as available, during times of disaster response.

Qualifications:
Compassionate, flexible and eager to serve others in need.

Basic needs: Email address, cell phone and a vehicle/drivers license. Not required, but highly recommended.

All training needed is provided at no charge by the American Red Cross. A desire to help, some time, and a "sleeves up" approach to teamwork is all that's required!

Disaster Program Manager, Disaster Workforce Engagement Manager, Disaster Workforce Engagement Specialist, other disaster volunteers and staff.

Leadership opportunites abound!

For local responses: with experience, training and successful work performance, the trainee can be promoted to DAT member, team leader in training and team leader.

For regional, state and national responses: with experience, training, successful work performance. evaluations and recommendations, the volunteer can be promoted to supervisor or higher position following the reassignment process.

For regional task groups: with training, experience and successful work performance, the volunteer can be prommoted to lead.

Client Casework
Purpose:
Become a volunteer with Disaster Cycle Services to respond to local small and large disasters. Assist with activities such as: shelters, feeding, health services, damage assessment, logistics, casework and more.

Application Process

To become a volunteer with the American Red Cross you would need to complete an application. This application is found at http://www.redcross.org/mississippi/volunteer. This takes you directly to the Volunteer Application page found on the Red Cross website. Completion of the application consists of registering for orientation, reading and agreeing to the code of conducts and policies of the Red Cross, and completion a background check.
