About Social Media Volunteer-Laurel

Support the Red Cross mission through social platform interactions and content creation.
Use personal social media accounts to engage with donors, clients, and other members of the public on Red Cross-related subjects
During disasters, provide moral and emotional support, connect affected communities with critical disaster information and resources, and identify actionable posts or information on social platforms.
Tag, sort, and categorize posts from social platforms using software and processes established by the social engagement team.
Communicate perceived trends in conversations, information about Red Cross-related topics back to the social engagement team.

Time Commitment:
Flexible schedule; can be done in office or remotely
Qualifications:
At least one active social media account
An active and regularly checked email account
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in using social media sites
Familiarity with social media monitoring applications and online group collaboration tools (examples: Hootsuite, online forums)
Regular access to the Internet
Access to a computer than can run required software with no issues.
Relationships
Accountable to communications department

Receives technical support from the communications department

Collaborates with Red Cross staff, volunteers, board members, partners, clients, etc.

Public Affairs Essentials
Recommended courses:

Psychological First Aid
Disaster Services: An Overview; Other disaster courses of interest to you
Purpose:
To support the local or regional social engagement team by assisting with a range of activities that extend the reach, effectiveness and responsiveness of the Red Cross on social media platforms.

Application Process

To become a volunteer with the American Red Cross you would need to complete an application. This application is found at http://www.redcross.org/mississippi/volunteer. This takes you directly to the Volunteer Application page found on the Red Cross website. Completion of the application consists of registering for orientation, reading and agreeing to the code of conducts and policies of the Red Cross, and completion a background check
