About Photographer Volunteer Opportunity-Laurel

Assist the American Red Cross in documenting the organization’s activties through still photography and/or video. (All photographs and video become the property of the American Red Cross following submittal.)

Attend community functions to document participation
Respond to emergencies to document the chapter’s response.
Capture photos of clients, donors, volunteers and partners to accompany stories
The photos taken by the Photographer will be used on redcross.org/Mississippi or redcross.org (possibly), Red Cross social media outlets, printed in chapter publications, used with news releases, and/or sent to media.
In disaster times, will upload within 12 hours of shooting
In non-disasters, will upload photos within 72 hours of an event
Time Commitment:
Flexible schedule; Scheduled for specific Chapter events; on-call for emergency response
Qualifications:
Submission of a portfolio of his/her work, either in print or electronically is requested
Must use his/her own equipment
Knowledge of digital photography and photo sharing sites necessary
Is responsible for acquiring photo release forms from identified people who are photographed (Red Cross supplies forms)

Accountable to: Communications Department

Receives technical support from: Communications Department

Collaborates with: Red Cross staff, volunteers, board members, partners, clients, etc.

Public Affairs Essentials
Recommended courses:

Psychological First Aid
Other disaster courses of interest to you
Purpose:
To capture Red Cross services in the field during disasters and other non-disaster events; To capture Red Cross events for the website, newsletter, reports and social sites; To build a local library of photos and video.

Application Process

To become a volunteer with the American Red Cross you would need to complete an application. This application is found at http://www.redcross.org/mississippi/volunteer. This takes you directly to the Volunteer Application page found on the Red Cross website. Completion of the application consists of registering for orientation, reading and agreeing to the code of conducts and policies of the Red Cross, and completion a background check.
