About American Falls Opportunity Community

What is an opportunity Community?
The Opportunity Community model builds a comprehensive, connected, poverty-informed approach that brings all sectors of the community together to remove obstacles to success. Communities implementing the model report that they are working together in ways they have never worked before. They also report that sectors of the community that are not traditionally involved in fighting poverty are now engaging. Sectors such as the retirement community, businesses, sororities, elected officials, and legal professionals.
Prosperity Summit November 14th 3:30 to 8:30, AFHS Auditorium, Dinner Provided The Prosperity Summit, engages all community sectors to gain shared language and understanding of poverty, dispel stereotypes and judgement, and to gain buy-in for the implementation and sustainability of the efforts to assist our neighbors out of poverty. All community members interested in being involved should attend. This includes, navigators, specialty navigators, and event volunteers.
Who is a Navigator?
Anyone can be a Navigator. Navigators are community members who agree to become trained (through the OC model) to understand different experiences of poverty, to learn the structural causes of poverty, and to gain communication and relationship building skills. Navigators commit to sharing their contact information and to using their networks to assist their Neighbor to access resources and support for moving out and staying out of poverty.
Who are Specialty Navigators?
Specialty Navigators are members of the community who work in organizations that provide resources or opportunities (colleges, hospitals, housing, courts, etc.). Specialty Navigators agree to take and return calls from Navigators and to assist them in understanding how to navigate their system or provide specific assistance to a neighbor through their navigator.
Who are Super Navigators?
Super Navigators are people who have experienced poverty, but have made strides to move out. Super Navigators offer support to Navigators who struggle to connect with their Neighbors in poverty.
If you are interested in being a Navigator please contact the American Falls School District Office at 208-226-5173 and and RSVP for the Prosperity Summit on November 14th.
