Albums of Hope, a 501(c)(3) charity organization, donates pocket-sized albums filled with uplifting quotes and photos to those fighting cancer or other serious illnesses.
Albums of Hope began as a personal mission for Laura Townsend. As her husband fought colorectal cancer, Laura, as his caregiver, often felt helpless against the cancer that Brad was fighting. Laura’s family and friends have joined her in the mission to feel more helpful against the cancer battle that has touched so many and took Brad’s life at age 45.
Since that first 100 albums created for Brad’s treatment center, Albums of Hope has continued to reach out to cancer patients, their caregivers, and others fighting serious illnesses. Dedicated groups of volunteers and a growing group of Albums of Hope Ambassadors help us assemble our albums and reach thousands each year across the Chicagoland area and nationwide.
The photos are hand chosen to inspire a lift of the human spirit and to evoke positive thoughts. Researchers from a study on positive emotion suggest that sources for creating and building positive emotions ought to be tapped to promote well-being and health benefits in patients. (1)
