AGE Africa’s mission is to provide life-changing opportunities for young women in Malawi through targeted initiatives in education, mentoring, and leadership development. Although in Malawi less than 7% of women hold a high school diploma, nearly 90% of AGE Africa’s scholarship students complete high school and 64% go on to higher education. AGE Africa supports the education, sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs, and leadership development of over 650 Malawian girls at sixteen government schools. Eight out of ten AGE scholars are either single or double orphans and/or first-generation high school attendees. The majority are AIDS orphans or come from homes affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
