About Volunteer Service

Price:$80/week
Description:

We offer volunteer opportunities for students, professionals, seniors and anyone with the desire to serve in rural villages in Kenya. Those interested in participating in our volunteer Program will complete an application form, and upon acceptance, are given the opportunity to work with our member community groups.

AHADI will work closely with each volunteer to ensure a comprehensive preparation that includes both an understanding of the people with whom they will be working with, and all considerations necessary for travel to Kenya.

AHADI is committed to reduce poverty, ignorance and disease among the rural communities in Kenya through economic empowerment education, and health care. We place volunteers in programs that provide safe and meaningful experiences to them.

Many poor children and orphans are likely to drop from school in Kenya especially in Rift Valley province due to several reasons which include; geographical remoteness, cultural practices like early marriages and female genital mutilation (FGM), poverty, HIV/AIDS, inadequate facilities, high cost of education post primary, high school dropout rate, poor management and supervisory and understaffing due to free primary education and lack of skilled teachers. The most affected are girl child and orphans.

We have opportunities for volunteer teachers to assist with teaching at primary, secondary and technical schools. The subjects to be taught include English, Swahili, mathematics, science, social studies, art and craft, games. We also have opportunities at early childhood development through nursery schools for those interested offering services for young children. Basic teaching skills for this volunteer opportunity are an added advantage but not a requirement. College students, recent University graduates, professional teachers and lecturers on vacation, retired teachers can apply. All the teaching positions are in Rift valley province which has spectacular tourist attraction sites. The volunteer may have opportunity to teach indigenous populations like the Ogiek, Maasai, Sengwer, Elmolo, Turkana and other diverse cultures.
