100 Days in Appalachia was born out of the 2016 election cycle, after we watched national and international media outlets get reporting wrong about our region – perpetuating stereotypes and painting our diverse communities with old tropes and tired stories.
We believe the story of Appalachia reflects the story of our country. We’re here to amplify the region’s diverse voices, celebrate our successes, investigate our failures and empower our communities.
100 Days in Appalachia is an independent, nonprofit news outlet incubated at the Media Innovation Center of West Virginia University Reed College of Media in collaboration with West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) and The Daily Yonder of the Center for Rural Strategies in Kentucky.
