About Truancy Court Mentoring Program

Community Mentoring Programs

Mentoring Programs – Delivering research informed mentoring since 1999

I. Mentoring Program: Youth Leadership Academy

The Youth Leadership Academy program is committed to making a difference in the lives of young men and women of color while strengthening public education for our youth. Our programs touch more than 600 youth across the city annually through programmatic initiatives that we refer to as “Four for the Future”; Education, Health & Wellness, Economic Empowerment, and Leadership Development. All programs are anchored in mentoring activities to promote community involvement and build high levels of self-esteem. The academy is a mix of one to one and group mentoring activities throughout the year.

A. In School Mentoring Program: September - May

To commemorate the power of mentoring and to strengthen public education, the 100 Black Men In-School Mentoring program engages school age children under the precept “What They See is What They’ll Be”. The program is held September thru May in collaboration with several public schools in the city of San Antonio. The mentoring program is opened each year with the 100 Black Men B2S Adoption Day event where 100 Black Men members and partner organizations welcome our youth back to school during their first day back. School partners: Sam Houston HS, Davis Middle School, Wheatley Community School, Fox Tech Young Men’s Academy, Young Men’s Leadership Academy.

B. Truancy Court Mentoring Program

The San Antonio Municipal Court Truancy Mentoring program is a collaborative effort between the city of San Antonio and the 100 Black Men to help at risk youth become successful citizens. The program involves incorporating each to the 100 Black Men’s programmatic mentoring initiatives into an eight to ten-week mentoring class. Youth are coached in self-awareness, leadership, academic success, healthy living, and economic empowerment life lessons. The Truancy Court program is held throughout the year to mentor youth in the importance of staying in school and achieving a quality education.

C. Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas BBBS Mentoring Program

The purpose of the BBBS mentoring program is to reduce the gaps that limit boys of color, by providing them with a professionally supported one to one mentoring relationship. The specific goals and objectives the program aims to achieve are to recruit mentors of color to match and support 175 boys of color aged 5-17 over a three-year period. The program also aims to enhance operations in recruitment, training of mentors, forming matches, and program evaluation. Finally, the program seeks to engage families more fully in the mentoring process through the implementation of a parent training curriculum utilizing the 40 developmental assets, called Raising Highly Capable Kids.
