Organizational Support

Your support makes statewide community workshops and leadership training possible to build long-term systemic power in every community in Idaho.

A fundraising campaign for United Vision for Idaho

For over 20 years, UVI has been organizing communities across Idaho. We believe in grassroots leadership and strategic community organizing as the vehicle for social change led by people directly affected by inequality. Today, UVI is a coalition of 30 organizations, and over 30,000 individuals statewide. We are dedicated to building a movement that advances the values and issues that matter most to Idahoans. There are powerful forces that are intent on dividing us, but as we work across the state and across our diversity, we know much more unites, than divides us! In short we are committed to making real improvements in people’s lives.

Together, we stand up, speak truth to power, challenge systemic discrimination and advocate for policies that lead to an equitable distribution of power, wealth, and opportunity. Systemic, long-term change happens through grassroots organizing that helps individuals and communities find and develop their own power.  Our lives are inextricably linked to others and we stand united to revisioning and rebuilding our state and world - one that puts people and planet first.

Change requires both long-term strategy, and intermediate and short-term goals. It is imperative that we also have the ability to act quickly in moments that have the potential to apply pressure and build grassroots power to advance progressive policies.

We work with our members and allies to build successful issue campaigns. We deliver training and workshops to provide individuals, leaders and communities across the state to address the threats facing marginalized communities, build local infrastructure, provide resources and tools to effectively organize, deepen understanding, and correspondingly to act as agents of change through individual and collective action.

Our work is transformative not transactional, effective organizing is all about building relationships. We pride ourselves on bringing organizations and people across the spectrum of our diversity together to work for a shared vision of progress.

As the state's only progressive coalition we provide critical resources, workshops, training, leadership development and support to build infrastructure and unite communities across Idaho.
Together we are a powerful presence in advocating state policy and defending threats to our civil liberties and human dignity.

We are multi-issue coalition made up of Idahoans just like you rising up to take back our democracy, and create an Idaho that works for all people and not just the powerful few.

TESTIMONIALS:

“UVI delivered a day-long workshop in Idaho Falls and it was profoundly important. It gave us a HUGE surge of confidence and energy!  We really felt we had the tools to build a movement. We are more confident about approaching people: we know what to ask and how to ask it. We have a greater sense of our purpose and how we can get there: we need to build a movement, not a reaction. We know how to develop a process for building that movement:  steps to organizing and why a plan is important. We understand the need for strategies and tactics and the difference between the two: critical to planning. We have a better understanding of what it takes to make organizing successful: know your assets, know your allies and opponents, find what issues and interests will move them (know their interests!).  It's not enough to be right; be strategic! Build power; leverage power strategically. Recognize that building a movement is the key to change. These are just some of the many highlights of this training that were particularly important to our organizing efforts in a rural part of the state.” - Judy Schmidt

United Vision for Idaho provides leadership that leads to real
improvements in the lives of people in Idaho and is a terrific partner in
national struggles for democracy and justice.  They work in hard terrain.
And so their impact is all the more remarkable and needed. Adrienne is a
gem. We should all be grateful for her leadership.
 - Heather Booth, Midwest Academy: Founder and Civil Rights Leader

I have done sessions in far larger and more progressive states with far
smaller leadership groups. As I travel around the country, I use UVI as an
example of the kind of effective work that can be done, even in the most
difficult contexts. The voices of women, people of color, and those struggling in today’s economy are far better represented in Idaho because of the work of UVI
and Adrienne. I can’t recommend UVI highly enough to you."
- Judy Hertz, Executive Director, Midwest Academy

"I worked with Adrienne and UVI at USAction.  She is smart, collegial, thoughtful, passionate.  She's taken on the hard work of building the progressive movement in a tough place, and she's stayed at that task for enough years to have developed a lot of wisdom about how to succeed.  We need more people and organizations like them - grassroots, creative, coalitional - all over, and we need them to succeed in Idaho if we are to turn the tide nationally.”
- Jeff Blum, USAction executive director, 1999-2013

"United Vision for Idaho plays an important part in advancing progressive policies and worldview in the state. The work that they do - particularly in the areas of advancing economic and gender justice - cannot be understated. Their ability to bring together various stakeholders under one common umbrella with the ability to move - through grassroots organizing - a progressive vision of our future is critical to our movement.”
 - Sarah Chaisson Warner, M.P.P., Campaign Director - Fight for Families

“United Vision of Idaho is the leader in Idaho in advocating and organizing for economic justice. Adrienne Evans has been an unwavering champion for increasing minimum wage and understands the disproportionate impact of our country’s economic policies on girls, women and people who are gender nonconforming. We look to the United Vision of Idaho for guidance and leadership on all economic issues across the gender spectrum.”
 - Kelly Miller, Executive Director, ICASDV

"UVI is the largest and most important progressive coalition in one of the most reactionary states in the union. As such, it serves to organize the efforts and amplify the voices of the members of all of our diverse communities. Absent their efforts, what progress we have made as a state would undoubtedly be greatly diminished, and one can only guess at the number of regressive policies that they have thwarted by their resistance. Despite these dark days, the energy and enthusiasm that has been cultivated and channeled by United Vision for Idaho gives me hope for our future. - Martin Orr, Ph.D., Boise State University

“UVI is a primary source of accurate information for individuals and organizations throughout the state on issues that affect and impact our lives.  UVI is a voice for thousands of Idahoans with respect to multiple pertinent issues, as well as being a key promotor of progressive values that bring citizens together in common purpose.

UVI is unquestionably the leading grassroots organization championing real, systematic, economic, and social change in Idaho while promoting human rights and environmental justice.  UVI is clearly one of the most essential organizations in Idaho.” – Steven Gracie, Idaho Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health

"The Idaho AFL-CIO has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with United Vision for Idaho and worked closely together on issues including pay equity and minimum wage for a number of years now. This critical work requires the strength of each of our organizations and without the leadership of United Vision for Idaho and executive director, Adrienne Evans, our capacity to move labor’s agenda forward would be diminished.” – Aaron White, Former President, The Idaho AFL-CIO

"We are proud to partner with United Vision for Idaho and to work on our shared goals of justice, particularly in regard to persons of color, those undocumented and our growing refugee population. UVI is an important vehicle for collaborative planning and joint action between groups that are both far flung around a large, sparsely populated state, and groups whose missions sit within different interests, but is more powerful when coordinated together. Thank you for your consideration to support this important work in Idaho."
- Julianne Donnelly Tzul, Boise RESCUE Committee

“United Vision for Idaho and United Action for Idaho is made up of people committed to making our community and world a better place for us all to live. They work to build a collaborative approach in making positive progress on the social needs of our society, giving a voice to those who have none.”
-William Bones, Boise Police Chief

“Now, more than ever, we need United Vision for Idaho, to be vigilant and work together to protect the rights of all, regardless of race and gender. Equality for all!” -Susan Lincoln

“United Vision for Idaho, a wonderful umbrella organization that empowers diverse Idahoans facing challenges for health care, decent wages, equal rights, and more. Through UVI, many voices are heard, hearts are touched, and eyes are opened.” - Kerry Cooke

    The Year in Brief:

United Vision for Idaho has had an active and rewarding year.  Our work has been impactful and challenging.  Some of our key accomplishments this year include:

    • Beyond connecting Idaho to a broad national movement with organizations in 32 states, including Idaho, we have been able to provide national leadership development training to four individuals from People’s  Action in Washington, DC and Chicago
    • Hosted bi-weekly conference calls to link work happening statewide. Participants include Moscow, Coeur de’Alene, Pocatello, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Ketchum, Nampa and Boise (spanning the entire state and coordinating work and strategic actions timed to apply pressure and mobilize constituencies)
    • Hosted a vigil in response to the tragic events in Charlottesville, presenting guest speaker Phillip Thompson, executive director of the Idaho Black History Museum.
    • Hosted a counter event to the ALEC funded front group,The Idaho Freedom Foundation’s annual fundraiser featuring renowned white nationalist and eugenics author of the Bell Curve, Charles Murray. The event was held at the Goodnessland, a new American owned restaurant. Speakers included Dr. Francisco Salinas, Phillip Thompson, Bernice Olivas, and Rev. Sara LaWall. We raised nearly $1500 to purchase books featuring diversity and marginalized populations.Books sets were delivered to school libraries in rural and underserved areas including Twin Falls, Pocatello, Nampa and Boise, by coalition partners in each of those areas.
    • We were able to provide a half-day training on social activism from Steven Goldsteinlegendary civil rights activist credited with winning marriage equality in New Jersey, and then director of theAnne Frank House for Mutual Respect out of New York.
    • We were able contract to bring in long-time partner and civil rights icon, Heather Boothto provide a workshop, reception and film screening of Heather Booth - Changing the World, featuring her life’s work. Our partners at the AFL-CIO acted as our partners to provide this opportunity to 279 people.
    • We worked with labor partners to craft the sixth iteration of a bill to raise Idaho’s minimum wage and the second iteration of a bill for pay equity, which removes barriers that currently allow for ease of discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, age, ability, and other marginalized groups. Both bills are on their way to receive sponsorship, and introduction in the 2018 legislative session.
    • We have worked tirelessly and in tandem with Close the Gap, Idaho to produce twenty-five timed actions, dozens of  congressional visits, generated thousands of calls and emails Idaho’s congressional members, national targets, and state legislators.Wehosted the only healthcare march, led by Boise Police Chief, William Bones ending in a rally at the Idaho Anne Frank Memorial, which was attended by some 800 people. During the legislative session we worked to pass the dual waivers to provide healthcare to 35,000 Idahoans, and hold elected leaders accountable to the people of Idaho. United Vision/Action for Idaho held a demonstration in the House Gallery demanding a vote on the Idaho Plan, 2 healthcare waivers to expand coverage to 35,000 Idahoans living in the coverage gap and move another 5,000 in emergent need on to Medicaid. We leveraged local media and the live feed video of the action received 12K views. And now as part of a strategic plan, we are pivoting to ensure that the ballot measure is passed by voters through deep canvas efforts in a UVI campaign entitled, RISEUP, Idaho.
    • We worked to defeat the  Constitutional Convention, Article V, which would effectively place the entire constitution and bill of rights on the chopping block and We defeated it!
    • Our director and members of NOW attended a national action in Washington DC protesting the GOP tax bill proposed.UVI's executive director was arrested for civil disobedience and leveraged her  and those of participating Idahoans to generate statewide press.
    • We hosted the first national Grassroots Idaho Organizing Conference featuring People’s Action, United Vision for Idaho with Center for Popular Democracy and Housing Works in a two-day intensive training. Provided support to individuals from across the state to attend the event was attended by 66 people from across the state, culminating in a shared statewide plan for strategically organizing for short-term, mid-term and long-term goals.
    • We have provided workshops and trainings to over 1800 individuals, 550 community members, leaders and grassroots organizations.
    • Two weeks ago we launched our rural organizing campaign, RISEUP, Idaho and delivered training to 40 new trainers living and organizing across Idaho.
    • Last week, we joined 12 other rural states across the country for the national launch of a bold new initiative for a populist movement that breaks the mold on organizing across the country, and securing Idaho’s place in real change making in America.
    • Next week, Idaho joins the ranks of the best grassroots organizations across the country gathering in Chicago to ratify a people’s platform and work strategically and like never before to create real change in people’s lives.

    Testimonials

    May 3, 2018

These are just some of the many highlights of this training that were particularly important to our organizing efforts in a rural part of the state.” -Judy Schmidt

United Vision for Idaho provides leadership that leads to real

improvements in the lives of people in Idaho and is a terrific partner in

national struggles for democracy and justice.  They work in hard terrain.

And so, their impact is all the more remarkable and needed.

The voices of women, people of color, and those struggling in today’s

economy is far better represented in Idaho because of the work of UVI

and Adrienne.

Kelly Miller, Executive Director, Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence

UVI is the largest and most important progressive coalition in one of the most reactionary states in the union.

UVI is clearly one of the most essential organizations in Idaho.”

    – Steven Gracie, Idaho Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health

The Idaho AFL-CIO has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with United Vision for Idaho and worked closely together on issues including pay equity and minimum wage for a number of years now. This critical work requires the strength of each of our organizations and without the leadership of United Vision for Idaho and executive director, Adrienne Evans, our capacity to move labor’s agenda forward would be diminished.” – Aaron White, President, The Idaho AFL-CIO

We are proud to partner with United Vision for Idaho and to work on our shared goals of justice, particularly in regard to persons of color, those undocumented and our growing refugee population. UVI is an important vehicle for collaborative planning and joint action between groups that are both far flung around a large, sparsely populated state, and groups whose missions sit within different interests, but is more powerful when coordinated together. Thank you for your consideration to support this important work in Idaho.
