Grace and Chris Wright are generously providing their support to CommunityHealth to continue and strengthen our provision of essential health care to uninsured individuals in Chicago. While their generous nature is to support others in whatever issues are dear to their own hearts, the Wrights would like to extend an invitation to ZS Associates employees who might be interested in joining their commitment to access to health care.
CommunityHealth is the largest free health clinic in the U.S. Located on the west side of Chicago, CommunityHealth serves only low-income, uninsured adults – most of whom are at high risk for COVID-19 because of diabetes, heart disease, asthma, or age. While many other clinics serving this population have closed temporarily due to shortages of PPE or volunteers, CommunityHealth remains open and focused on keeping these individuals out of hospital emergency rooms by caring for non-COVID-related conditions and providing COVID testing to those who need it. Meanwhile, as many people in Chicago are losing their jobs and health insurance, we continue to register new patients and become a medical home to many more.
Most of our patients are immigrants, with over 34 primary languages spoken. The immigrant population is especially vulnerable right now, as fears over citizenship status may prevent them from seeking health care. Because of these fears, CommunityHealth's role as a trusted health care provider is more important now than ever.
At CommunityHealth, in addition to primary care and testing, we also provide specialty care (cardiology, gynecology, etc.), mental health and social services, classes, and more to ensure patients can get and stay healthy. Finally, CommunityHealth expanded our services during this difficult time to also provide food and hygiene products to patients for whom shelter-in-place is a matter of safety but who are also struggling to care for their families when they cannot work due to business closures and COVID risk.
This fundraiser will support increased expenses brought on by the pandemic, as well as ongoing care and medications required to keep our patients healthy.
