Stop Tonawanda Coke

A fundraising campaign for Citizen Science Community Resources

Tonawanda Coke is racking up DEC violations again, just years after their landmark court case. Enough! Let's unite to close the plant and save our community.

We are sick and tired of watching the black soot of Tonawanda Coke poison our air! We need it to stop once and for all! On an almost daily basis, dangerous black particulate matter billows out of Tonawanda Coke stacks and into our lungs and our backyards.

With over 175 cited environmental violations in the last few months, this company continues to operate and pollute at the expense of our clean air and health.

We've endured for nearly 15 years, fought and won a battle against a company that seemed to be unstoppable.

Unfortunately, advocacy has costs. Your contribution will help us provide:

  • Advocates on the ground at political and community meetings,
  • Educational materials for the community,
  • Signage,
  • Videos, and
  • Advertising like a billboard, newspaper space, and Facebook ads.

We stopped them once, and we need to do it again: This time for good. Let's #stopthestacks!

Our community continues to breathe cleaner air because of our efforts (we still have a 92% reduction in benzene). We've been patient, and we gave them a second chance, but enough is enough.

We have endured their mess for way too long, we are angry and we need their stacks shut down for good. We deserve no less!

We must reunite as a community and in order to stop their mess. This means we need advocates at meetings. We need to educate our neighbors. And we need to plan creative demonstrations.

Your help is vitally needed!

Tonawanda Coke's budget for a public relations campaign is bottomless. They donate to political campaigns, provide gifts to large local nonprofits, and have the budget to lie to our neighbors with advertising.

You can help protect your community, by ensuring the truth prevails and our community fights back.
