Transform learning for kids in our community

Give students the gifts of inspiration and connection through arts experiences

As students, families, and teachers navigate the return to physical classrooms, Young Audiences is working hand in hand with schools to provide arts experiences for students and professional development support for teachers. Our Right Brain Initiative staff have gotten creative to equip artists and teachers to effectively integrate the arts to connect with students where they are, and have fun while learning!

“It has been fulfilling to get back to work with youth in Portland schools. I have worked hard to adapt my programs to the distance learning environment in a way that engages youth and sparks curiosity. There is a wealth of technology available to enhance the experience of both the instructor and student. I believe the work we are doing now to build remote learning systems will become a key component future educational programs.”

- Aaron Nigel Smith, BIPOC Teaching Artist, mentor for new artists

When students are inspired to use their hands: softening clay into new possibilities, rolling and beating sticks on Taiko drums as an ensemble, or forming paper mache into an expressive animal mask; they engage with their peers and teachers through art, building back relationships which were lost in the challenges of recent years. When you give a gift to Young Audiences, your hands help make this magic happen.
