What would you say if someone told you they quite literally walked through hell to protect you?
Combat Veterans have done just that. A Combat Veteran is someone who will forever live hyper alert, under stress, and most likely in pain. They have survived battle and come home, but now they fight to have some sense of a normal life. For many, the constant stress and nightmares when awake or asleep, the constant physical pain, or physical instability can be unbearable.
Can you imagine a world where you never ever feel safe and at peace? Not ever? Where you can’t physically manage but are too proud to ask for regular help?
In Nevada one Veteran takes their life every three days due to these stressors.
This is where our motto comes from.
Saving Two Lives At A Time
Not just our mission; it's our passion. Our efforts are focused on both Combat Veterans and the Service Dogs they are partnered with. We accomplish this through training, mentorship, comradery, and socialization.
We strive to have a positive impact on our Combat Veterans as well as save the lives of homeless animals. By bringing them together we help them forge their bond and give them hope. In pairing rescued dogs with Veterans we create teams that understand each other. They've both been through some tough times but keep going - happier together than alone. Our Service Dogs are Canine Good Citizen certified and then further trained for the specific skills and tasks needed by each Veteran.
We have five operational programs and two assistance programs (outlined below) with 80+ Veteran & Service Dog Teams.
Programs:
- Post Traumatic Stress
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Mobility
- Suicide Prevention
- DOGTAGS School (Training to become a dog trainer.)
- *Debuting additional programs in 2018*
Assistance Services:
- Animal Assist (Helping disadvantaged Veterans' pets with food, medical care, and pet deposits.)
- Veteran Advocacy
We are looking to increase the number of veteran and service dog teams but to do this we need support and help from you.
