A fundraising campaign for Foodnet Meals on Wheels

As we approach the end of 2016 we recognize how much we have to be thankful for at Foodnet Meals on Wheels.  Because of gifts from the community, Foodnet has been able to continue to provide hot home-delivered meals to our vulnerable elderly.  Each day our drivers deliver a nutritious meal to more than 400 people.  We hope that you will join us with your support to ensure the continuation of this important work.

We are increasingly aware that the value of what we do extends far beyond the food.  The daily contact by our drivers at the front door, or by our staff and volunteers at one of our four congregate meal sites, is a vital part of our service to the community.  For some that live alone, this human connection may be the only face-to-face interaction they receive all day. We hear over and over again how valuable the social aspect of our program is for our participants and their families.

2016 has been a very important year for Foodnet in one other major way – Steve Griffin, our founding Executive Director of thirty years, is retiring.  The community spent a week in November celebrating what Steve has meant to all of us and to Tompkins County.

As the Board of Directors wrestled with how to best recognize Steve we came upon a concept that both celebrates Steve’s work here and contributes to Foodnet’s future – The Steve Griffin Foodnet Van Sponsorship Fund.  In celebration of all of Steve’s accomplishments, this fund will be used for a new van.  To honor Steve’s legacy, the van will be dedicated with a sign saying, “In Honor of Steve Griffin, Executive Director, 1987 – 2016.”
