The CUNY Law Review: Student Authorship Initiative

The Student Authorship Initiative is a new program designed to support the development and publication of student scholarship. Help us make it accessible.

A fundraising campaign for CUNY School of Law

Program Overview and Mission

The Student Authorship Initiative is aimed at lifting the voice of CUNY Law students and the communities they serve. The marquis program, the Writing Warrior Workshop is an intensive 7-week training and support program for students interested in publishing social justice scholarship.

CUNY Law students serve at the forefront of public service, doing progressive and innovative work that recognizes the unique challenges faced by their clients. Too often, however, the work and impact of the best advocates goes unnoticed. The Student Authorship Initiative seeks to give this work the recognition it deserves. The initiative empowers students to develop their writing and publish articles on the work they're doing in the community.

The purpose of this initiative is threefold. First, it fulfills the third pillar of the CUNY Law Review’s mission: “fostering student excellence in writing, legal analysis, and research.” This commitment allows CUNY Law students to develop their credibility and their careers.

Second, increasing the number of CUNY students published amplifies the already incredible reputation of CUNY School of Law, benefiting current and future alumni and attracting quality advocates as students.

Most importantly, the initiative serves the broader legal community in our country. Progressive and client-centered lawyering is needed now more than ever. The publication of our students' work will feed the legal community’s desire to better advocate for marginalized communities. It gives a platform to the unique obstacles faced by clients, while highlighting innovative legal approaches to face those obstacles.

Today, we ask for your support.

Our vision is to have a powerful and accessible program right out of the gates. We believe that a student's family, financial, and professional obligations should not dictate the ability to build on their legal careers. So, we are offering our workshop on weekends and providing childcare and breakfast. This allows participation from our part-time, working students, our parenting students, and those facing financial barriers. We also plan to culminate the program at a public event on Student Scholarship that highlights the work of our program participants as well as other students in the CUNY Law community with valuable experience to share.

This, however, all comes at a price. Your donation would support this new and innovative program, extend its reach, and ensure it is sustainable and replicable to help students for years to come.

Thank you for your support.
