Support St. Mary School

St. Mary School . . .Making a Difference Every Day

A fundraising campaign for St. Mary School, Elyria

Jerry Boron has been a great friend to St. Mary School and Parish. Besides being an active parishioner, Jerry was also very dedicated to the school. For over 40 years, she taught physical education to students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Her interest in the physical well being of youth carried over to her dedication to the CYO athletics in Lorain County. Jerry served as the Director of the Girls' Sports Program of the Lorain County CYO and developed the Girls' Volleyball program countywide. In 2006, she was inducted into the Lorain County CYO Sports Hall of Fame.

Jerry was a dedicated educator. When there was a need for an assistant math teacher in the middle grades, Jerry quickly rose to the occasion. Jerry saw professionalism as an important part of being a teacher. To demonstrate her professionalism, as she went from PE teacher to math teacher she would change from her “PE teacher clothes” to “classroom teacher attire”.

Jerry's love of education spread to Europe as she volunteered at an American language school in her parents’ homeland of Poland. She eventually became director of the school and continued in that position for 20 years. Upon the death of her husband, the school was renamed the Frank Boron Language School. Some of her fellow teachers from St. Mary School volunteered with her at the school.

Even after Jerry retired she continued to volunteer at St. Mary School. Until just a few years ago, Jerry continued to come in to help teachers do special projects with the children such as Polish ornaments, Christmas customs, and symmetry bookmarks. Most recently the children knew Mrs. Boron as the “paczki lady” as she treated all the students to paczki on Fat Tuesday. Her presence will be greatly missed.
