Student Panama Trip 2018

A fundraising campaign for New Roots Charter School

Help us send our Spanish students on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Panamá, Central America where they will deepen their perspective as global citizens.

Students will be embarking on a 9-day adventure to Panamá, Central America.  All activities planned are deeply and purposefully connected to the New Roots mission and vision. By attending an immersion school in Panama City to hone their Spanish language skills, students will become better communicators. Their perspectives as global citizens will also be deepened by experiencing the contrast between city and rural life and staying with host families in Kelley's former Peace Corps community, Chepo de Las Minas, Herrera. Chepo is located inside a national forest, where students will witness the transformation from a farming community to an eco-tourism community, as well as help connect local artisans with buyers outside the local community to increase trade opportunity. Finally, the opportunity to share experiences and establish personal connections with local high school English students in Chitré, Herrera will leave a lasting impression upon students' sense of community in this world.

The students who have committed to going on the trip have been working hard since the 2016-17 school year to make this happen. All students have participated in group fundraising and will continue to do so, and we need your help to meet our goal!
