Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt arts organization in Chicago working to support, promote, and cultivate the endeavors of female-identified artists by providing exhibition opportunities, professional development, and public programs that invite discussion about what feminism means today.
Almost two years ago WMG founder Beate Minkovski retired and Sydney Stoudmire was appointed Executive Director. Since stepping into the role, Stoudmire, who joined the Woman Made team in 2013, has sought to revitalize and diversify Woman Made Gallery’s through diverse approaches to collaboration, programming, and exhibitions. Key exhibitions and programs from this year include
- Abandoned Margins: Policing the Black Female Body
-Beyond the Binary: Works by Janice Bond
- Fellowship: Solidarity partnership with local community organizations (3Arts, Hyde Park Art Center, Mana Contemporary, Links Hall, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, Three Walls)
- Open TV: Pilots by Women and Feminine Spectrum Artists
- code/switch
- Entirely Myself
- Artists In Residence: Adele Supreme + Caroline Jacobson
This past year has come with exciting changes, and challenges. Despite its promising future of cultural vibrancy to Chicago’s art community, Woman Made has been one of many arts organizations in Chicago, to experience significant cuts in government funding that were critical to the gallery’s operation. In order to continue ensuring stability and growth of Woman Made Gallery during this key period of transition, we ask for your support in our efforts to raise the funds which were lost through government cuts: $20,000.
A small non-profit like Woman Made cannot survive-much less flourish-without the support of people like you, who participate in the Gallery as members, volunteers, collectors, and art appreciators and, most of all, as believers in equal representation for women artists.
As we approach 2017, Woman Made Gallery sincerely hopes to have your support in creating solid foundation for another year of growth, impact, and innovation in Chicago's art community.
