We are embarking on our 18th Annual Walkathon for St. Mary of the Assumption School. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised to enhance the learning of our school children in many ways. This year, we are setting our sights on improving our playground area to benefit the health and wellness of our children. When our school was founded in 1952, there was no playground. St. Mary's did not have a playground until the late 90's! In fact, the playground was first located in the area that is now our gym. It was subsequently moved to its current spot when the Weaver Center Gym was being built. Twenty-five years of play makes for lots of memories, but it also makes a direct impact on the wear and tear of our equipment.
Our playground needs some attention! It is our hope that we can address the playground surface with new poured-in-place flooring, an additional play area for our Early Education Readiness Program (Preschool, PreK, and Jr. Kindergarten), and make other enhancements and changes to our current apparatus.
Playground renovations are expensive! Early cost estimates are approximately $100,000! We know we are asking a lot of our sponsors - family, friends, and businesses like you - to help us reach our goal. We believe we are making the right investment for our school. Now, more than ever, we believe in the value of recess time and the positive impact that fresh air and exercise can have on our children's mental health. We invite you to be a part of this year's campaign and help keep our playground full of laughter and fun for decades to come.
