You've probably heard the saying, "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life". Think of the things you're really good at, that put you "in the flow", and ignite your curiosity... I'm guessing that those are the things you love to do.
Now, imagine the schools and classrooms you hear about in the news these days. Threats of violence, bullying, low test scores, kids' basic needs unmet - it's a grim picture. And it's certainly not a way to get students excited and engaged in their education. How can we expect kids to focus or get "in the flow" themselves when their environment is so gloomy?
At Young Audiences, we believe that arts education makes a difference. The opportunity to create, perform, experiment, innovate, and play in the school day comes from an art-filled education. The arts have the power to light up the school day with joy and creativity.
And that's why, for 60 years now, you have made it possible for Young Audiences to harness the creativity of our community to benefit kids. You have invested in our work of bringing professional artists together with schools and classrooms throughout Oregon & SW Washington to inspire young people and expand their learning through the arts.
As we look into the future of our next 60 years, and hopefully longer, we invite you to continue to bring bright moments to the school day by supporting Young Audiences.
With your support, we will ensure that creativity and the arts are a part of the education of over 70,000 kids in over 200 schools this coming year. Students from kindergarten through high school will experience music, ceramics, dance, animation, theater, poetry, puppetry, design, and even - in a special partnership this year - the Portland Gay Men's Chorus singing in celebration of the birth of the gay rights movement at Stonewall Inn in 1969.
Please, share a bright moment this holiday season with the kids of our community by making a gift of any size right here on this page.
