"Mayhew has done a lot for me. The advice I have gotten from counselors has strongly improved my coping and strategy skills and has given me strong social skills. Mayhew has given me a safe, but great opportunity to face my fears. If it was not for Mayhew and the support from staff members, I would still be afraid to get up on stage and be the center of attention.
Before going to Mayhew, my biggest fear was being underwater. I was too afraid to attempt to face my strongest fear. I never once even imagined I would attempt to face my pro-longed fear, but thanks to the moral support and faith the staff at Mayhew had in me, I was able to push thru and give it a whirl.
It has also been amazing to go away with Zach, and before him, Matt. Being able to hang with guys that are supportive and thoughtful. Sometimes, they even had similar struggles ones that I was facing and that was comforting. They have the faith, patience and understanding with me to teach me ways to handle my frustrations in positive ways.
I may not always act like Mayhew means anything, but it means a lot to me! As I look back to how I was when I started and I look at me now, I see all of the successful ways I have strongly improved. For example, I have learned that good things come out of effort. Another thing I have learned was to never give up, no matter how scary or intimidating factors may have seemed, because in the long run, there is nothing better than realizing that you, and only you, are able to face your fears, learn new things and most of all, and succeed with pride."
