On the night of July 31, 2017, my son Ryan was sitting on the steps of his friend’s house waiting for him to return outside, when he was jumped by three individuals and beaten almost to death. On his friends return he was found and taken to Elliot hospital only to find his injuries where to severe for them to care for him. He was transported to the Acute Trauma Emergency at Mass General Hospital.
It would take 5 days, nearly 9 hours of surgery and 10 steel plates to reconstruct his face. We are still waiting to see what the outcome of this first surgery will be on saving his nose and an eye. His jaw is severely damaged and he will be on a liquid diet for many, many months.
There will be many trips to doctors and hospitals, and the possibility of future surgeries. The financial stress on his family is immense as is the mental stress on his daughters ages 6 & 10.
