Wrongful convictions leave a trail of heartbreak and desperation in their wakes. Crime victims, the wrongly convicted, and society as a whole suffer. Our mission at Proclaim Justice is to bring hope to those affected by these tragedies by reinvestigating crimes and getting innocent people out of prison.
We were born out of the infamous West Memphis 3 case, in which Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelley were wrongly convicted of murder in 1993. Our director, John Hardin, was part of the team that freed them after they spent over 18 years in prison. Upon their release, John and Jason started Proclaim Justice to help free other victims of wrongful conviction.
Most recently, our innocent client Daniel Villegas was found not guilty by an El Paso jury following a retrial, ending a 25 year nightmare for him. He was arrested as a juvenile and spent over 20 years behind bars for something he didn't do. He had a dedicated team of people behind him and his long legal saga finally ended in October. Depending on what verdict the jury returned, he would either spend the rest of his life in prison or finally be truly free to live his life and be with the family he loves. The above video of the verdict speaks for itself and shows the gravity of our work.
Also, we recently celebrated the first anniversary of our friend and client Tim Howard's freedom. In the last year, he has seen places he's never seen, met supporters, and started a budding lawn service company.
While we celebrate Tim, Daniel, and others, we continue to work hard for our other clients who are in prison.
