The People's Budget is a process that sets aside money from the city to be voted on by our whole community, which creates an opportunity for people who are not often a part of city government to take action around the decisions that affect all of us. This project will serve as a catalyst for equitable change in Ithaca.
This process is taking place for the first time in our city following a campaign run by the Youth Organizing Fellowship, a Multicultural Resource Center program that teaches young people how to organize for change in their community.
Made up of three young people with experience in grassroots organizing, the managing team for the pilot year of PB in Ithaca has been working diligently since the process was approved in November of 2017; They have been designing each aspect of the pilot year to ensure that not only is it a success, but will remain a sustainable aspect of Ithaca’s framework, an accessible tool for people to use to enrich our community.
