2020 Paddle for Homes Dragon Boat Race & Festival

Let's Paddle for Homes on July 18, 2020!

A fundraising event for Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County Inc.

Event Information

Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 12:00am - 12:00am

At Habitat for Humanity Dutchess, we build homes. We believe that everyone, everywhere should have a healthy affordable place to call home.

  • We build because we know that children are 25% more likely to graduate from High School and 18% more likely to attend College if they live in a home owned by their parents.
  • We know that children are healthier in family-owned homes.
  • We know that a decent home gives families the strength, stability and independence that they need to create a better life for themselves and their children.

We build with families not for families.

The 2020 Dragon Boat Race & River Festival will be our biggest one yet! It is a great opportunity for you to be a part of Paddling for Homes and raising money for affordable home ownership.

This year, we have some fun incentives and strongly encourage peer-to-peer fundraising.  This is a way to not only raise funds for this event, but to educate your friends, families and co-workers about how affordable housing changes lives and communities.  You will be supplied with social media posts, materials and more to help spread the word that everyone deserves a decent place to live.

Please note that once payment is made, due to contractual obligations imposed on Habitat for Humanity,  refunds will not be made for any reason including inclement weather.

Paddler information

Paddlers are essential to the Race and River Festival- without paddlers there is no race!

What is a team?

A team consists of 16 paddlers, 1 drummer and  up to 3 alternate paddlers.  For all races in Paddle for Homes, only MIXED teams  compete.  Mixed teams must have at least 6 women in their boat for each race.

2019 Community team champs- The BaxStars (Baxter Construction)

There are a few ways you can paddle:

Corporate Sponsored Boat ($1200)- If your company would like to sponsor a boat, paddlers for your team will receive a special registration code.  Once your corporate boat is paid for when your company paddlers register, they use their registration code to register at zero cost.

Team Boat ($1000)- If you are a professional club team or if you are not a company, but have a large group of people who want to paddle together (17-20 people) register as a team boat.  Once your team boat is paid for, when your paddlers register they will use their registration code to register at zero cost.

Individual ($60)- individuals looking to join the fun are encouraged to register as an individual and we will find a spot for you!  OR register as an individual and join a team you know has been created (for example there is plenty of room on the Habitat Hydro Hawks!) This is a great opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and team build.

2nd & 3rd place teams  Marist and Thrivent Thunder

club team 2019 winners- the NYPD

And there are two different race divisions:

  • Community Division- If you are a local group of co-workers, civic club, sports team, family or friends, you’ll race in the Community Division.  These teams typically race in this one event each year to support Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County.
  • Club Division- If you are a member of a team that travels to dragon boat events near &/or far for serious competition, you’ll race in the Club Division

New for the 2020 race are prizes to reward your fundraising efforts!

We encourage you to reach out to your friends, families and co-workers to ask for their support. This is a way to not only raise the critical funds needed by Habitat for Humanity, but to educate your friends, families and co-workers about how affordable housing changes lives and communities. Once you register, our event registration website provides the tools to spread the word that everyone deserves a decent place to live.

incentive prizes are awarded based on dollars raised  over and above the initial entry fee. For example, in order to qualify for the water bottle, an individual paddler must raise $100 over and above the individual entry fee of $60. In the case of a team, incentive prizes are determined by amounts raised by each paddler after the team fee has been paid in full

$100 raised = limited edition Paddle for Homes shirt OR double insulated habitat water bottle

$250 raised = limited edition Habitat zip up Hoodie + $100 incentive prize

$500 raised= deluxe expedition travel bag with Habitat logo + $100 and $250 incentive prizes
