IDAHO GIVES 2017 - Oooo Baby, Baby

Neonatal kittens' lives are fragile under the best of circumstances, and that fragility increases when they are orphaned.

A fundraising campaign for Simply Cats Adoption Center

Kitten season is a busy, busy time at our adoption center. Little Lenna was just 1-2 days old when she and her two siblings were discovered, very cold and wet, in an industrial park. They were rushed to our shelter, where our orphaned kitten "triage" began. Neonatal kittens are born blind with a limited ability to move and regulate body temperature. Warming them up was our immediate priority.

Once stabilized, our cat care manager quickly examined each baby for any physical concerns. The last quarter of Lenna's tail was blackened and odd-looking, probably as a result of the cold she'd experienced. A couple days later, the end simply fell off. As each kitten passed its exam, it was handed to a staff member to bottle feed and potty. Thus begins the intensive 24/7 routine required for bottle babies.

Our small staff does its very best to save as many as possible. We maintain an active foster program. We constantly recruit, educate, and provide all supplies necessary to our fosters. These thoughtful and self-sacrificing people furnish the loving care, safety and socialization necessary to raise kittens (orphaned and otherwise) that can thrive in their forever homes. We simply couldn't do what we do without fosters who share our passion.

A lot of money, time, effort, and love goes into running a rescue shelter and saving kittens and cats. Every donation helps!
