Transforming the lives of families experiencing homelessness. Because every child deserves a home.

A fundraising campaign for Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley

Founded in Summit, New Jersey in 1988, Family Promise is a national organization that comprises more than 200 affiliates in 43 states that work together to transform the lives of families experiencing homelessness. What began as a local response to a problem in Union County, New Jersey has grown over the last 30 years into a national movement involving more than 200,000 volunteers nationwide who serve more than 125,000 people yearly. Today Family Promise is the leading national nonprofit addressing the issue of family homelessness. While we’ve grown, the core of what we do is still local – partnerships within a city or county changing lives for the better.

Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley operates the Beacon House Homeless Shelter – Established in 2001, the shelter is located in downtown Eau Claire and can house up to six families at a time, and provides immediate relief by giving families short-term shelter and allowing them time to get their feet back on the ground.

Families may stay at Beacon House for up to 30 days. During their stay they work with our in-house case manager to assess and remove some of the hurdles that have contributed to their homelessness. Family members participate in programs, both within Beacon House and with our external community partners, to set goals and create a guideline of what needs to be accomplished in order for their family to transition into permanent housing again. While initial stays are for a 30-day time period, extensions can be granted if families are working on their goals and need additional time to be successful in accomplishing them.

Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley truly is a team effort requiring the combined talents of the staff, volunteers, congregations, and Board of Directors.
